We can have coffee on Saturday too

I know I missed posting yesterday, but I worked Wednesday through Friday and it just didn't happen. I did think about it (and all of you), if it counts for anything.

I didn't have the easiest week. I worked last weekend, which is always a little sad, but Saturday was an easy day. Sunday did not start out well and ended up being much busier than a Sunday should usually be. It finally ended with the cardiac arrest and death of one of my patients. It's obviously not the first patient I have coded, but this was the first unexpected death of a patient I was caring for prior to the code. (In the ER, all of these patients come in by ambulance already in arrest.)

Needless to say, I was at the hospital two hours later than usual and had a hard couple of days trying to not think about it and not go over and over what happened in my mind. While people were kind enough to say that it was not my fault, the thing is, I know that I could have done things differently. Whether they would have turned out differently will never be known, but the blame I place on myself is not unfounded.

Moving on, getting back to work actually helped and my other days of work and day of class went pretty well. I met another nurse whose husband goes to GT as well and talked to her about where they live. We've been tossing around the idea of moving after another two day on and off retraction of the hot water. We both hate moving and dread moving all of this stuff that is no longer all in neatly packed boxes by the manufacturer, but it could potentially save us some money, might be a friendlier area, might be closer to my work, and might be a more long-term home.

Tonight we have a party to go to, but it's a surprise, so just in case, I'll leave it at that...Unfortunately, I'll miss at least the beginning of the Dook game because these are not basketball fans and I felt like saying, sorry, I can't celebrate because I had plans to sit on the couch would make me sound like an awfully bad friend. I'm still very torn by this. Hopefully, I can find a casual way to mention it and get it turned on and muted....

  1. Yes, we can definitely have coffee on Sat. too! So sorry about your patient and can't imagine what you must face on a daily basis. I have such respect for our healthcare professionals and so appreciate their calling. May God grant you peace as you deal with this recent issue. Blessings for a wonderful week-end!

  2. I am so sorry about your patient. I know it must be difficult, but I also trust that you did what you thought was best and tried your hardest! God bless you for that!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
