Ketchup

Pin It First, let me apologize for the "blogging bursts" that have become the norm around here. I'm really going to try to get a better blogging schedule--for me, mostly. On to recent events...

We were warned we were in the path of hurricane Irene last month, so I joined in with the preparations. Like any good Girl Scout, I never want to be the one who isn't prepared. So without a lot of fanfare, I did fill the bathtub, got some extra water, and inventoried the fridge and freezer. While I didn't expect to have real damage, I was surprised we didn't lose power. While there was a lot of damage and devastation in other places, everything was fine in our area and we didn't see any damage within our radius of home and work. We even went for a walk that afternoon.

Since we moved here we have been planning weekend trips to nearby interesting cities. We decided to make our trip to Washington, D. C. for the weekend. My uncle lives in the area and we had talked about staying with him, but he ended up stranded in upstate New York after his week long visit. (The Thruway had been shut down due to hurricane issues.) So we ended up giving Brice's brother Keith in Annapolis a call and he was good enough to put us up for the weekend. We did the typical monuments and museums on Saturday and met up with my uncle in the afternoon. He treated us to a nice dinner at popular hamburger place. On Sunday we took a spin through the art museum and then went to a Nationals game. The three of us put together a nice spaghetti dinner and relaxed after a long weekend.

The next weekend found us at Chick-fil-a (our favorite spot for free food!) enjoying a free breakfast. I needed some time to catch up on studying, so I did that while Brice went to the driving range on his own. We went to the Newark Film Festival in the afternoon and saw Midnight in Paris. I enjoyed it a bit more than Brice, but I was glad we got the chance to see it. On Sunday we got a visit from Aunt Betty and Uncle Pat. They were on their way back to New York from a wedding in North Carolina and stayed at a hotel in Newark. After settling on Mexican for dinner, we gave them a tour of our place and then brought them to the UDairy Creamery at the university. It's a nice little spot and if you visit us, you'll get to go too :-)

This past weekend we decided to go apple-picking at a highly-publicized orchard. Brice felt they had "Disney-ified" the experience, but we still had fun picking and being rebellious by exploring other parts of the orchard. We got lunch from Subway and headed to the park for a picnic and reading. The day was overcast and windy and the park has few trees, so it wasn't as pleasant as we had imagined. We left a little early, but still had a good time. After church on Sunday we went to the mall and a music shop. Brice is shopping for an electric guitar. Playing with the brand new one made the decision between used and new much harder :-)

Thanks for sticking with us, readers. More to come...

  1. Glad you were spared any real damage from the hurricane! Sounds like you had a good time visiting with your family as well. Apple picking sounds lovely :)
