Quick Takes-vol. 10

It may seem like it's been a quiet week around here, but I did have a guest post this week over at Carrots for Michaelmas.  I didn't share it here on the blog originally because I have a lot of readers who are family and it's not a post I would share with family.  So, if you're not family and you didn't see the post on Facebook or don't follow Carrots already, head on over there now and check it out.  If you are family, really, seriously, trust me on this and just skip it :-)

Speaking of, do you follow us on social media?  If not, I hope you will because there are things I share there that you may not see here on the blog, like this week's guest post.  I'm new to Twitter so I'm not promising anything great there, but I do promise some great stuff on Pinterest :-)

Most of you probably know that I became Catholic last weekend at the Easter Vigil.  It was a really beautiful Mass as I had always been promised it would be and it was nice to have family here for it.  My husband's parents came into town on Thursday and left Sunday afternoon and my aunt and uncle came in for the afternoon/evening on Saturday from Albany.  I was extremely touched as well to have my friend from my original RCIA class back in college drive down from Boston for the event.  I hadn't seen her in 6 years so it was really wonderful.

Big events like that usually come with fun gifts and cards and this one didn't disappoint.  I don't think I've gotten more cards for any other event in my life besides our wedding :-)  Thanks to everyone who sent me something!  I also racked up some Catholic "bling" or as I told my husband, "flair".  When I went to bed Saturday night I had 5 pieces of flair on my nightstand.
A decade Rosary bracelet made by Abbey and a Marian bracelet from my RCIA friend from college

I only did one day of subbing this week and it was at the parochial school again.  The kids are nice, but it's very different from the public schools.  To be honest, I prefer the public because in this area, I'm more needed.  When I was in the public schools I could tell I made a difference for those kids--they needed an advocate and then needed to learn about their health.

We got a short visit from my mother yesterday as well.  She had my grandmother visiting for a month with her and drove her back up to Albany last weekend.  After staying a few days to see family and friends, she was headed south again.  She stayed over last night and left this morning.

I think my blog posts might slack off for a couple of weeks.  I really need to re-focus my free time on getting things done for school because the sooner I finish these assignments the sooner I can be feeling free of this entire degree program!  The end is in sight and I just. can't. wait.  Anyone else graduating this summer??

    1. Thanks, Rita! You know, I really am excited about going to my first Mass that I will feel like an ordinary Catholic--does that make sense?
